This is a crucial work worthy of immense praise! Thank you ever so much for collating this information not only for continental Afrikans but those in the diaspora who want to reconnect to their ancestry.

Afrikans go to great length to name their children appropriately, as the hope is that they live up to the meanings of their names. Naming children, like greetings, is also a core part of Afrikan culture.

This book is indeed an education and essential for all Afrikans worldwide and people that are genuinely interested in Afrikan culture.

    Eku ise rere o!

Bunmi , did a wonderful pioneering attempt to make people of other cultures feel comfortable in calling our names. Imagine the conversion of Yoruba vowels to tongues of other cultures. That's just to great. I will recommend this book.

This is a great idea and it would be good to develop it to become a "must" for writers as well as for those interested in the origins of names; a good idea to cover a number of African countries. However, the lists of names are sparse and the formatting needs attention. Also it could do with attention from an effective editor. With some work it could become a good reference book in the future.

Comme d'habitude, toujours l'Afrique de l'ouest et de l'est. Très peu de prénoms bantous (Afrique centrale et australe) ou malgache. Ça manque.

This book is an excellent resource for expecting parents that would like their child's name to reflect their cultural heritage. As the descendants of Africans some of us have loss our names and learning the importance of one's name make this dictionary an essential part of one's library. It is also a good cultural and historic source of information. I recommend this book for anyone who has an interest in knowing thyself.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great resource. Lost a star to spelling errors of English words

Great resource for learning how to pronounce several African names properly (this book has allowed me to realize several persons' names have been mispronounced).

I appreciate that origin includes group, country and region. So many other books just state "African".

The ratings lost 1 star due to multiple spelling errors (see pictures for a few, but not all, of the examples). It has lowered my confidence in the spelling of the names if the meanings themselves are being misspelt - "strong", "hollowr", "Marcus Garver" etc.
