Customer Reviews, including Product Star Ratings, help customers to learn more about the product and decide whether it is the right product for them.

- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 4 October 2008Okay first things first. I am a bloke. The first time I saw this film I had an upset tummy on a Friday. Since going out was obviously off, I was lying on the couch under the duvet trying to find something to watch on TV.Geez a soppy girl comedy was my first thought when it started. And then Debra Messing appeared, WOW! my tummy might not have been working properly but there was nothing wrong with my hormones. She is beautiful and she is lovely in this film. So many nice moments to choose from, for me when she awakes on the plane and is a beautiful mess, the bathroom scene when the escort is showering, the car scene,so many to choose from. Anyway I digress, it is actually a really good feel good movie. Wonderfully acted, incredibly funny and at times very tender. I know the film centres on the emotions of the female lead, but I think some of the emotions being seen are present in both sexes. Everytime you think you know where the film is heading, bang it is off in another direction. However at its heart and I am not sure better known UK films like `Four Weddings` have this, there is a message about the importance love, trust and companionship being put across to the audience. Oh and so many actor/actresses in it that you know by face but can`t quite place by name. You can almost hear Paxman in the back of your brain going C`mon!, C`mon!!, C`mon!!!. Jeez you don`t know his/her name!.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 17 September 2015When I first saw this movie come out, I judged it harshly and thought it was pretty stupid, despite the fact that I hadn't even seen it. I just saw it tonight and I thought it was really great.
(SPOILER!!!) It seems to me that "happily ever after" is the sugar pill, placebo if you will, of Hollywood; and the public soaks it up. Now mind you, this film wasn't nitty gritty in any way shape or form; but it did touch on some serious issues.
People are flawed; people are messed up. Nobody is perfect, and despite this fact, we insist on finding that "perfect person". Whatever your criteria, were so image obsessed that what looks perfect on paper isn't what it actually seems.
Nick is a high priced escort (a profession low on the totem pole) and Kat is barely making ends meet working for an airline. They are not perfect by any means, and neither is their relationship, and neither are the other people in their lives that makes the film.
They wouldn't be who they were, were it not for their past experiences and choices. Whether good or bad; its who they are. Do you walk away from someone because of that fact? Do you walk away from someone because of their mistakes? Life is full of lessons; but its not a lesson, and its not a full life, if you never learned from it.
Overall I enjoyed this, easy watching bit of a chick flick!
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 24 July 2017Saw it once and tried to figure it out. Saw it again and got all the quippy one-liners and the subtle humour. Debra Messing is pitch-perfect and plays it beautifully. Invited to her sister's wedding in London (for us Brits) she has no 'other' so hires an escort in the shape of Mulroney for the whole time. Some of the scenes are hilarious and her (Messing) acting is superb. Mulroney plays it deadpan all the film and just gives out sage advice to all and sundry. One or two little quirks. Sarah Parrish as her cousin is loud-mouthed and spoils every scene she is in, Amy Adams as Messing's sister called Amy is really fluffy and lightweight but plods along anyway. Jack Davenport as the groom Ed is a boring 'Rupert' character but gets the girl in the end. I have one serious and pertinent question.
WHY DID SHE NOT HIRE AN ESCORT IN THE UK INSTEAD OF PAYING $6000 (YES $6000) TO MULRONEY FOR THE WEEKEND? A PERFECT CASTING OPPORTUNITY FOR HIGH GRANT SURELY. Also Mulroney does not know if he is Irish, English or American - his accent slides all over the place. Still gets five stars though
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 5 December 2015This is one of my favourite films, perfect for a girls night in. The film is jam-packed with brilliant actors and actresses and is the sort of film to make you laugh. Kat Ellis is single and is her sisters maid of honour but there is one problem she doesn't have a date to take to the wedding. What makes it even more hard for her is that the best man is her ex- fiancé who left her brokenhearted. So she devises a plan she hires an escort named Nick to pose as her boyfriend for the wedding so that she can make her ex jealous. The chemistry between Kat and Nick is great, there will be times you want to laugh and the whole film is so well written you start to sympathise with some of the characters. I highly recommend this film you wont be disappointed.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 6 January 2014I love this film, it's my go to on a chilled out Sunday evening with a warm bowl of soup or some toast :) I really love it because it's not your average chick flick in which girl meets guy, falls in love with guy, gets married, happily ever after. It has twists and turns in it to keep you on your feet, and at the start you think she's going to end up with a different guy to the one she does end up with. It's just a really good story of a disfunctional family and the daughters quest to survive it on her sisters wedding day!
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 4 March 2006I rented this from Amazon and both me and my wife were so impressed with it that we watched it again straight afterwards. I've never watched a film for the second time, immediately after the first viewing before. Granted the film is only about 1 hour 20 mins long, but even so we watched it the second time because it's really great.
I didn't expect the big twist in the film and upon watching it for the second time some of the earlier scenes in the film took on a whole new meaning.
As many other reviewers have said this is a warm, funny and thoroughly enjoyable movie that i recommend highly.
