It works! I think...
I bought this to deter slugs and snails from eating my outdoor tomato and pepper plants. Generally it seems to have worked because my plants survived with very minimal damage (although it was a dry summer so the weather was on my side). As others have mentioned, be careful with this tape as it can give you a sharp cut. I thought the rolls would be bigger than they are - see photo for the size. I didn't run out of tape, though - there was enough to go around the pots and saucers of 12 plants.

Anyone valuing their plants will develop a passionate hatred of things like slugs. They eat lupins and veg, and they don't even look decorative while they're doing it! They're like slothful versions of horseflies and wasps, there to do very little that would be called useful. They put the "tesque" into "grow".

We've just created some new raised beds for plants and need some protective barriers against snails and slugs. Sharp sand around the bases of the planters is the first line of defence, and these conductive copper tapes are the second. They should remain decorative enough to actually enhance the sleepers they will be passed around, and have certainly improved the look of our plant pots in which we keep lupins and some other "slug lunch" plants.

We opted for 30mm width because the electrical potential that they create in slugs will not put the slug off crossing the tape unless it is wide enough. If the slug gets even a hint that there is something beyond the tape that might be worth the discomfort, it'll go for it! Best to make it as uncomfortable as possible then.

The only thing to bear in mind is that these tapes can easily be defeated if parts of the plants being protected, or those nearby that may not be protected, droop or bridge the space between pots and allow slugs to bypass the taped off routes. Don't think that they won't find that way - they will!

Provided you space the protected plants aside from unprotected areas and take care to remove drooping leaves (lupins have this habit) you will find the tapes work fine. We had our first "serious lupins" last year after ages of trying other ways to keep slugs away, it was only when we realised that the coppery look could actually enhance things like terracotta that we opted for it.

So far the adhesive is fine as well, but these are fairly newly on the sleepers so only time will tell.

Edit 13-9-17 : I've noticed that a couple of the tapes have started to peel away from the sleepers at the ends, as though water ingress has affected the adhesive. This was fixed by ensuring that the tapes around things are properly lapped over themselves when they've fully gone around the pot or raised flowerbed, you have to lap the tape over itself by two or three inches, after which it tends to stay put.

This was a great deal and because it’s narrower than the usual tape I buy I found it easier to work with. It wasn’t as sticky as I would’ve liked but it did stick, and it did keep the slugs and snails away except on one pot that had lilies in it, I think I have some SAS slugs that were on manoeuvres 😆 but this was a really good buy and I will order again,

I swear by copper tape to do the slug/snail deterrent each year. In the past I have stuck the tape around pots and planters and all the plants, including hostas, have had little or no sign of pest problems. This year I surrounded my small flower garden with plastic lawn edging (which protrudes above the ground by about 4") and have stuck the copper tape on to the outside of the plastic and, to my amazement, all the slug attracting plants have managed this year to so far grow without being ruined by these slimy pests - something unheard of previously in my garden where I like to grow delphiniums and lupins - a favourite of the slug brigade. I am utterly convinced that with proper care of placement and making sure nothing can "bridge" to your plants, the copper tape works well as a positive slug repellent. Buying in bulk is a money saver too as I'm not paying for expensive, individual packaging boxes.

The copper tape works well keeping the annual garden slugfest party under control. BUT each roll was wrapped in plastic, the rolls were then In a plastic bag inside another plastic bag. I would have given 5 stars but took 2 stars away for gratuitous use of plastic! C’mon people, how are we as consumers supposed to cut down on plastics when manufacturers keep on doing this! *steps down from soapbox*

I first tried this product in 2014. It worked. The same tape was left on pots and containers over the winter into 2015 and it remained effective.
I also tried sticking a "collar" of it around the trunks of some little sapling Wisterias, only about 9 or 10 inches tall, the "uncollared" one was destroyed by slugs, the others weren`t. That`s why I`ve bought some more this year.
A word of caution. Being a very thin metal tape means it has very sharp edges so be careful how you slide it through you fingers when applying it.

The pots need to be bone dry for the tape to stick

This stuff really works. The tape needs to be at least this width, and - to be on the safe side - circle pots and tubs with two widths to prevent slugs and snails 'humping' themselves over it. After a year you'll need to clean and possibly replace some of the tape, but so long as the tape is relatively inexpensive this isn't a problem. I use no known toxins in my garden or house. Copper tape with broken eggshells in the flower beds to further deter slugs and snails; occasionally diluted white vinegar or salt to deal with persistent weeds and coffee-grounds in water sprayed to deter insects. Why further-pollute the planet or endanger bees when you don't have to? The tape was very promptly delivered and most of the packaging was recyclable.
